T34 at the National Museum of the Armed Forces, Brussels, Belgium. The T34-85 was the much improved successor of the T34-76 (see picture #2871 for more info). The big difference between the T34-85 and its predecessor was the powerful 85mm gun and the larger turret which held a 3 man crew. The T34-85 had a 5 man crew. Although it was a big improvement, the T34-85 was still no match for the German Panther and Tiger tanks. But because of the sheer numbers (produced 1200 a month, with a total of over 20.000) it overwhelmed the German army at the Eastern front, where they only had 304 Panther tanks.
