This is a photo of a vehicle that was being built in Lima Oh in 1952 but I can't find any information as to what this machine was. Can anyone provide any help?

Looks amphibious. Could be a LARC-15 ?

Hi Roger, It has more the likes of a LARC-5 but the rear of the cabin is to smooth. It also looks like it would get tracks and the cargo hold gives the idee that it is a Landing Vehicle Tracked (LVT). Alf

perhaps it was one of those prototypes that never got into service.

I finally got the information on this vehicle. This was a LVTU-XT landing vehicle tracked. Wt 30, 000 pounds. Only one prototype built but was cancelled due to the materials needed for the Korean War. Started building in 1951 finished in 1952. Built by Baldwin Lima Hamilton Corp.

Hi Bernie, Great! Where did you find the info. I have looked in Janes American tracked vehicles, a very big book, but it was not in there! Event the T39 was not in there! Regards, Alf

Alf this information came from Aberdeen testing grounds from a book Fred Crimsons tracked military vehicles of 1992 printed by motorbooks international.

I checked with some of my buddies and they identified this as an LVTU-X1 (prototype). It is currently in storage at the Marine Corps Logistics Base, Barstow, California. It was previously displayed at the museum in Camp Pendleton, California.
