Military Vehicle Photos
Schützenpanzer M 39
The M39 Armored Utility Vehicle was a U.S. armored tracked vehicle based on the M18 Hellcat tank destroyer. Originally designed as a tractor for anti-tank units, it also found use as an armored supply vehicle, reconnaissance and command vehicles, and finally as armored personnel carriers in the last year of World War II and the Korean War. As of 14 February 1957 they were taken out of service by the U.S. armed forces but used among the allies of the United States for many more years. About 100 M39s were transferred to the West German Bundeswehr in 1956, where they were used to train the reestablished Panzergrenadier armored infantry units.
