GMZGMZ (tracked minelayer).
The GMZ-3 (Gusenichniy Minniy Zagraditel-3) tracked minelayer, is based on the chassis of the SA-4 (Ganef) surface-to-air (SAM) missile system.
The minelayer is of the plough type. Mines are fed into the minelayer via two chutes, one either side. The GMZ-3 can carry 208 anti-tank mines which are loaded into the rear armoured compartment through two large roof hatches. A squad of seven sappers can load the vehicle in 15 to 20 minutes. Mines handled by the GMZ-3 include the TM-57, TM-62 (with contact fuzes MVCh-62, MVZ-62, MVP-62M, and proximity fuzes MVN-80), and TM-89.The laying system spaces the mines at intervals of between 5 and 10 m at a speed up to 6 km/h and a rate of 4 mines/min.
Three GMZs can lay a 1,200-meter, three-row minefield, containing 624 mines, in 26 minutes. Doctrinally, this minefield would be broken into several minefields, each 200 to 300 meters long.
